MEMBERSHIP FAQs

What’s the minimum age for membership?

Membership is for Adults (19+)

What are the membership hours?

Members may drop-in at any time during posted business hours. Please note that business hours are subject to change.

Do I need to book a spot before dropping in?

Nope! There’s no need to book a spot or reserve equipment before dropping in.

If I don’t use all my visits, can I carry them over to next month?

Unused membership visits do not roll over to the following month. This policy ensures fair access and prevents overcrowding.

Is the studio open on holidays?

The studio is open on statutory holidays unless otherwise communicated by email. Members can expect the studio to close for several days during the winter holiday season.

Can I bring guests to the studio?

No. Your Membership is for you and you only!

What can I store at the studio?

All members are provided with a small designated storage space for works in progress. Personal tools, materials, and equipment may also be stored within this allotted space.

Can I bring my own equipment to the studio?

Personal tools, additional materials, and equipment may be stored in a member’s designated storage area.

Members may also store their own sewing machines at the studio for an additional monthly fee.

Can I bring my pet to the studio?

We wish! The studio contains equipment and materials that aren’t safe for pets. For their safety, furry friends must stay at home.

MEMBERSHIP POLICIES

Monthly Membership cancellation policy

Monthly memberships require an initial three-month commitment. After the first three months, members may cancel by providing one full month’s written notice via email.

Members are responsible for removing all works-in-progress and personal materials before their membership ends. Any items left in the studio after the membership expiry date will be donated.

Pausing Monthly Memberships

After six months of membership, members may pause for one month at 50% of their regular monthly rate with one full month’s written notice via email.

Minimum skill level for memberships

Members must be able to work independently and use studio equipment responsibly. A solid understanding of basic equipment skills and studio etiquette is required.

If a member’s observed skill level does not align with the experience described on their membership application, they may be asked to pause or cancel their membership and complete an appropriate class to meet the required skill level.

Studio closures

Softspot is a small, independently operated business. The studio reserves the right to close, with or without advance notice, as needed. Closures may occur due to illness, severe weather, repairs and maintenance, or holidays.

Annual closures during the winter holiday season and during extreme weather events should be expected.

Property Damage

Softspot reserves the right to refuse service and to charge members for damage to studio property. Softspot is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal property.

Classes FAQs

How does the waitlist work?

In order to join a waitlist, customers have to pre-purchase a pass for that class. If a space becomes available, everyone on the waitlist will be emailed with the option to join the class.

If you don't get into the class, the pass stays on your account for future use, or you can request a refund less a $50 administration fee.

What if I need to cancel?

See the Class Cancellation Policy.

Can I bring my own fabric and/or materials?

Yes! You’re welcome to bring your own fabrics and materials. Please email us in advance so we can confirm they’re suitable for the class.

Please note that bringing your own materials does not change the class price.

I booked a class but want to switch to a different one. Can I transfer?

Yes! If space is available in another class, we’re happy to switch you over.

A $15 administrative fee applies. You may also be responsible for the cost of any materials already purchased or prepared for your original class.

What if I am sick or injured on the day(s) of my class?

When you register for a class, you acknowledge that unexpected illness or injury may prevent you from attending. While we understand that getting sick or injured is outside your control, it is also outside of ours. We are a small business, and we are not able to give refunds or reschedule due to last-minute illness or unexpected injury.

If you are feeling unwell, please do not attend your class.

What if I miss a session of a multi-session class?

Multi-session classes are designed to build from week to week. Missing a session may make it difficult to keep up in subsequent classes, so please only register if you’re able to attend all scheduled dates.

Makeup sessions are not available, and we cannot guarantee placement in another class to make up a missed session.

What if Softspot has to cancel my class?

If we need to cancel a class for any reason, you will be notified by email as soon as possible, and a full refund will be issued to all participants.

Can I take pictures or film during classes?

Photography, video recording, or audio recording during class requires the consent of the instructor and any students who may be captured in the recording.

Classes Policies

Class/Event Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be made by email at least 10 days prior to the first day of class or event.

If 10 or more days’ notice is provided, a refund will be issued less a $50 fee (unless otherwise noted). This fee covers administrative costs and materials that may have already been purchased or prepared.

Cancellations made fewer than 10 days before the start date are not eligible for a refund.

Risk of Injury

Classes use equipment such as sewing machines, sergers, sharp tools, and hot pressing equipment, all of which carry inherent risks and may cause injury if used improperly or in the event of an accident.

By participating in classes, individuals acknowledge and accept these risks. Softspot is not responsible for injuries, damages, or losses incurred while at the studio or using its equipment.

Minimum Class Size

A minimum of 4 students is required for a class to run. If fewer than 4 students are registered, participants will be notified and issued a full refund.

Minimum Age

All classes are for adults only (18+).
